CHART YOUR COURSE
The mission of the United States Naval Sea Cadet Corps is to build leaders of character by imbuing in our cadets the highest ideals of honor, respect, commitment, and service.
The United States Naval Sea Cadet Corps (Sea Cadets) is the US Navy’s youth development program
We give young Americans skills, knowledge, and confidence through an amazing variety of training opportunities. Sea Cadets wear uniforms, work as teams in a disciplined environment, and adhere to our core values of honor, respect, commitment, and service.
What is the Smoky Mountain Anchor Division?
SMAD is the local chapter of the U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps (USNSCC) and Navy League Cadet Corps (NLCC) in the Knoxville, Tennessee area.
Any student, ages 10-17, may join any unit within the Sea Cadet/League Cadet program. The Smoky Mountain anchor division is the home squad to cadets from all over East Tennessee, Sweetwater to Morristown, and even Western North Carolina (we're THAT awesome).
The Smoky Mountain Anchor Division meets one weekend per month. Our current base is located in Clinton, TN, and Cadets stay overnight, typically being dropped off Saturday morning and picked up Sunday late afternoon.
What Do Cadets Do?
Each Drill weekend is planned in advance and cadets and families will receive a POM (Plan of the Month) from the unit Leadership in advance via Email.
Drills consist of team-building, physical training activities, close-order military drill, and practical hands-on instruction. This may also involve special off-site activities.
Drill Weeked Activities
Events and activities have included:
- Boating & Swimming
- Camping & Hiking
- SCUBA Training
- Visit from a 4-Star General
- Outdoor Survival Training
- Ice Bears and Smokies games to provide the Color Guard!
What is the Commitment?
Cadets are expected to attend Drill weekends (dates are set a year in advance), study and complete online coursework, memorize the Sea Cadet Oath, learn knots and nautical terms, and attend at least 1 training per year in order to advance in rank.
Optional opportunities include: Color Guard for events, parades, and ceremonies, out-of-state trips, and fundraising meet-ups.
Sea Cadets instills values of discipline, accountability, and teamwork in a safe environment. We give cadets a chance to step outside of their comfort zones with dynamic challenges. We help our cadets thrive with humility and confidence.

ADA
In compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), it is the policy of the Sea Cadets that no qualified person will be excluded from participation in, denied the benefit of, or otherwise subjected to discrimination by the USNSCC simply because that person has a disability. Safety
Safety is our number one priority. All of our volunteers undergo regular background checks and cadets are under adult supervision throughout training.
